Graduate Admissions calendar

The following calendar is a general outline of the process of Applying to the University and the Department. Please confirm all dates with the Graduate Program assistant.

July-January	Request application through the Department of Theater and Dance or seek On-Line application at the Graduate Division website. MA applicants can request applications through March.
September-October	Register for GRE exam . Applicants to doctoral program should arrange for a testing date early enough so that scores will be received by January 15. MA applicants can schedule tests somewhat later, but the earlier the better, and in no case should a score be received later than the end of March. No GRE score more than five years old at the time of admission is acceptable.
January 15	Application deadline for fellowship competition. All applications to the PhD or MA/PhD programs should be received by this date.
February-March	Admission and fellowship decisions are made during this period, with notification coming as early as possible. First to be notified will be those admitted to PhD and MA/PhD programs.
March 2	Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form deadline. Required of all students receiving any form of aid, regardless of need.
April 1	MA Application deadline
April-May	Decisions made on MA applications.
April 15	Deadline for acceptance of fellowships.
April-June	Decisions made about apportionment of teaching assistantships.
Summer	Office of the Registrar mails registration packet to your permanent address for registration in late August/early September.
Late September	Beginning of the academic year, preceded by some orientation sessions.

Online Application

The UCSB Graduate Application for Admission can be started on line. Please go to www.graddiv.ucsb.edu/eapp/ and click on the “START a new application” link. Read the instructions, scroll to the bottom of the screen, and click on the gray box that says “BEGIN APPLICATION.”
